The Weird Food List!!!

Have you ever thought about eating a live shrimp soaked in alcohol or how about deep frying a chicken feet? Some of you may have frowned bearing the thought of eating these but in reality, these are considered amongst delicacies in some parts of the world.

Let us check out what kind of weird food people eat all over the world.

Tuna eyeballs

During the recent trip to Japan, our bloggers saw these eyeballs being sold cheap in the supermarket of Japan. Well, they did not have the heart to try these but the locals told them that these taste just fine. The eyeballs are steamed or boiled and seasoned with soy sauce or bits of garlic.

Crispy Tarantula

Cambodian natives resorted to eating tarantulas while they were starving under the rouge regime. The regime ended for good but it seems the locals had developed a taste by then. These spiders are deep-fried and offered as a snack through Cambodia.

Fried Chicken Feet

It might not be the first thing to eat if you’re cooking chicken but the fact is that chicken feet are a Chinese favourite. Ubiquitous through the towns of China, they’re dished out by street vendors and have a crunchy and crispy exterior.

Century Egg

Recognized as a Chinese delicacy, the eggs are preserved for months and then consumed raw. The people who have tasted this weird food revealed that it tastes like sulfur and smells like ammonia.

Casu Marzu

How about mixing maggots and Cheese? A single piece of CasuMarzu is served with thousands of wriggling maggots. With a creamy texture, it is known to taste gooey and ripened.

Bird’s Nest Soup

This weird food probably tops the list in squeezing your wallet. Using saliva nests, this soup is relished by Chinese and it is said that the ‘red nest’ variety of this soup costs a staggering $ 10,000 per bowl.

Escamole

Referred to as ‘Insect Caviar,’ Escamole is ant larvae harvested off the roots of the agave plant. If food bloggers are to be believed, the larvae have a nutty buttery taste.

Sannakji

A small octopus which is amputated in front of you is seasoned with sesame oil and please note that the pieces are still moving on the plate as you make an attempt to eat it. Needless to say, this takes the concept of raw food to an entirely another level.

Kopi Luwak

Revered by connoisseurs, this falls amongst the most expensive varieties of coffee in the entire world. The coffee berry beans used to make Kopi Luwak coffee are defecated by cats and later processed accordingly.

Mopane

Considered as an important source of protein by people in Africa, this caterpillar is usually found on Mopane trees. Mostly, they’re eaten as a snack.

There are many weird foods eaten around the world but for now, I feel these are enough to give you nightmares (or maybe not). Have you eaten any weird food lately? Or relished one of the aforementioned. Let us know in the comments section.
